Cytotechnology is a specialty within medicine that involves the microscopic interpretation of cells to detect cancer and other abnormalities.

Cytotechnologists prepare a wide array of lab specimens, requiring them to understand techniques such as fluorescence-in-situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, and cell search assays. These technical skills are matched by an understanding of biology, cell structure and basic knowledge of many diseases.

Daemen University offers a Biology / Cytotechnology BS/MS (4+1) in partnership with Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, where the final year is spent in specialized, intensive study.

To date, students have a 100% pass rate for the Board of Registry of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and a 100% job placement rate, with most students securing employment prior to graduation.
