Leading to a Career in Public Health 

Before becoming a community health professional, there is an educational path that will best prepare you. In the world of public health, there are several different positions that one can go into that all stem from several different degrees. At Daemen, we can prepare you for three of the top careers in public health.

Our BS in Health Promotion to Master of Public Health program is a five year bachelor’s to master’s program that develops your academic knowledge along with hands on career experience to best prepare you with the skills and knowledge to succeed within your local, national and international community’s needs.

Masters of Public Health Specialty Tracks

Our Master’s program focuses on three key areas within the profession, including community health education, epidemiology, and generalist.

Community Health Education – As the main connector to the community for information on how to stay healthy, these professionals will create programs to best educate those of all ages on best practices. Programming can be held in schools, health agencies, and all over to prepare and educate on health, nutrition, and how to avoid illnesses.

Epidemiology – Professionals assist with collecting and analyzing data associated with disease, illness, and injury in specified areas.  In a time of a pandemic, epidemiologists are hard at work to determine the cause and eliminate the spread. A key role within this profession is understanding public health concerns to create effective treatment and prevention services for the community.

Generalist – Learn how disease, illness, injury, nutrition and more are connected to the public’s health by building the necessary skills required to research and address public health services, and recognize public health problems. Professionals specifically work to increase knowledge of how overall public health status affects the concern and implementation of public health principles.

From small town communities to global efforts, having a designated track is a great way to find your specific area of work and improve your skills to best achieve your personal and career goals within the public health field.
