Accountants are in high demand by both individuals and corporations around the world. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics states employment of accountants and auditors is projected to grow by four percent between the years 2019 and 2029 in the U.S. alone.
If you are considering majoring in accounting, you will want to attend a school that offers great value, and can prepare you to earn a high return on your investment.
Offering multiple accounting programs to choose from, Daemen University was recently listed as one of Best Value School’s Best Accounting Schools in New York.
With the help of Daemen University Accounting Program Director Grace Huff, we put together a list of what to look for in an accounting program to gain the best value.
Personalized attention
At Daemen, we value each student attending our classes.
Smaller class sizes and individualized resources “makes a difference when learning the technical and challenging information required of accounting students,” said Huff.
Students at Daemen receive a lot of one-on-one-time with their instructors, which provides more opportunity for students to receive academic support and guidance as they earn their degree and build their foundation of skills and knowledge to help find success when in the workforce.
In addition, “all of our accounting instructors have spent time working in the field of accounting,” said Huff. “We bring real-world experience into the classroom. Through our local business contacts, we are able to keep in touch with the needs of the local business community and ensure that our students graduate able to meet those needs.”
Building these exceptional connections to the job market, can often lead to paid, full-time positions upon graduation.
In fact, Daemen has a 100 percent job placement rate for its accounting graduates.
Real-world experiences
Experiences that relate to, and support, your interests and goals help you develop and determine the path you want to take.
The Daemen University accounting program requires all students to complete an internship. To make the process valuable and ensure it caters to their needs, all accounting students receive personalized support with their internship and job placement.
“Many local CPA firms contact us for our accounting interns,” said Huff. “These internships provide hands-on learning experience in the accounting field. The opportunities include jobs in public accounting, manufacturing, not-for-profits, and service industries. Many of our students are offered permanent positions as a result of their internship”
In addition, Daemen accounting students also take a service learning course.
The university offers many service learning experiences for students to choose from, therefore you can pursue an experience that adds even more value to your university education and overall experience.
Daemen students also gain valuable experience when providing free tax help to individuals with low or moderate income through our Volunteer Income Tax Program (VITA).
“Students love this program,” said Huff. “Many return year after year to help out in the program, even when they don’t need the service learning credit.”
Program flexibility
Another way to determine an accounting program has added value, is that it offers flexible options for students who are balancing other responsibilities, including current jobs, family needs, and much more.
“At Daemen, a student can meet the 150-hours required by New York State in five years. In addition, classes in the major are offered in the evening. This provides a great option for non-traditional students who work during the day,” Huff explained.
You deserve to attend a university that offers options that work best for you.
