Are you thinking of transferring? Maybe you are about to graduate from a community college. Or perhaps you are making a change in your educational path, due to unforeseen circumstances. Whatever your reason is for transferring—the fact is: the process is likely a lot easier than most people think.
By now you’ve probably had many questions about the transfer process.
To help answer some of the top transfer questions, we sat down with Julie Zulewski, Daemen University’s dean of enrollment.
Will my credits transfer?
“At Daemen, we make the transfer process simple for our students,” Zulewski said. “All applicants need to do is submit their school transcripts—we will take care of the rest.”
Students can easily apply online and follow next steps at Daemen’s transfer admissions web page. They can also email transfer@daemen.edu or text 716-271-0454 for more information.
After you send transcripts for a quick review, Daemen’s admissions office can tell you exactly how many of your existing credits we accept.
“We take pride in accepting a generous amount of credits—up to 90—which few universities can match,” said Zulewski. “You may be surprised about where your courses might fit in as an elective, or other required course.”
Your acceptance packet will state the accepted courses. In addition, it will state which courses these will replace at your new university.
This evaluation will also tell you how many credits you have left to graduate. Therefore, it’s easy for you to see what pieces of the puzzle you will need to graduate on time — or in the least amount of time as possible.
When is the best time to transfer?
“Any time,” said Zulewski. “Students can transfer after completing an associate’s degree. Or
after one semester—a student can even transfer before finishing a semester.”
To help meet students where they are, Daemen has streamlined and simplified the transfer process.
“We know how to make the transition as smooth as possible,” said Zulewski.
Is it uncommon to transfer colleges?
Not at all.
“More than one-third of students transfer colleges at some point before graduating with their degree,” said Zulewski.
Daemen dedicates resources to connect transfer students with supportive resources.
“We’re eager to help students dive into new opportunities and embrace their new university experience,” she said.
Will I have access to scholarships?
Yes! Daemen offers many scholarships for transfer students.
“Also, if you applied to Daemen as a first-year student and received a scholarship, we will honor that,” said Zulewski.
Overall, Daemen aims to support students at all points of their educational and life journeys.
“Transferring can open up so many doors,” she said. “It’s important for everyone to explore their options and find the fit that’s right for them.”
