Please note that as of March 2023, some changes have been made to the MBA program and to the recently named Alfiero School of Business.
There are many MBA programs across the country that can help professionals gain new skills and knowledge for advancing in their careers.
When it comes to choosing which program is best for you, there are several factors to consider.
Flexibility
It’s important to find an MBA program that offers flexible options for earning your degree – both in time and cost.
For instance, students in Daemen University’s full-time MBA program can graduate in as little as one year. However, part-time students can take their time. They can take as many courses as they want at once.
“Pursuing a part-time MBA is a great option for those who are already working,” said Daemen MBA Director Torsten Doering.
All classes are held in the evening to accommodate the schedules of both part- and full-time students, he explained.
Brien Pacholec, an MBA student and web developer, said he has bounced back and forth between being a full- and part-time student while pursuing his MBA.
“There was a semester I took five courses a week,” said Pacholec. “Accomplishing this was no easy task; however, the combination of in-person, remote, and asynchronous learning made it manageable to work with my schedule.”
“Overall, the professors are understanding and willing to work with the students regarding schedule flexibility,” he said.
Specializations
If you are interested in a specific area of business, find a program that offers specializations.
Daemen offers four – including health policy and management, international business, leadership and innovation and a FLEX option – which allows students to choose any combination of courses that aligns with their specific career objectives.
“This allows you to become more of an expert in your desired field,” said Doering, “whether you will be looking for your first job after graduation or want to advance in your current career.”
Cross-disciplinary approach
Having a solid foundation of business management techniques – and related subjects – is highly beneficial for any professional in today’s workforce. This is especially true for those who are interested in management positions.
“Daemen’s program covers all the essentials a manager must know,” Doering explained. “We focus on today’s and tomorrow’s business problems – and how to solve them with a cross-disciplinary approach.”
“For instance, one course integrates cost and financial accounting, but also dabbles in leadership and operations topics. In real life, this is all connected,” he added.
In his studies, Pacholec has developed both communication and leadership skills through group projects throughout the program – and says that the coursework is always contemporary and relates to the current professional climate.
“After graduation, I look forward to carrying new insights with me, as well as a behind-the-scenes understanding of the business world as a whole,” he said.
